Rainforest Preserve

As our human population increases, rainforest is lost and the concomitant loss of flora and fauna ensues. In light of these realities, Zoo Peru has developed a secondary long-term objective. Zoo Peru, Incorporated has committed to developing an Education/Endangered Species/Research Center.

The Research and Endangered Species Center will initially consist of 35 hectares (75 acres) of remote primary/secondary rainforest. This center will serve as an endangered species propagation facility, preserve and also as a research facility for visiting scientists to use as a base camp and/or study site. The facility will consist of 8 elevated buildings; a central education building, a second open pavilion for research presentations, dining, and general use, and 6 small multi-person quarters.

The site will have river access to facilitate personnel and supply movement, and also to serve as a means of access to surrounding research site locations for scientists. We are currently scouting for appropriate sites for this center with the following additional attributes: topography above seasonal flood plane, tributary or spring available, secondary canopy, adjacent rainforest available for future expansions, and affordability.

If you would like to aid us in our fundraising efforts for the purchase of rainforest, please go to our support page by clicking on Donate here or on the link at the bottom of any page.
